The dig began today with 98 year old Ruckhall resident, Barbara, cutting the first sod. Barbara is a keen supporter of the Eaton Camp Historical Society and looking forward to seeing what we find.
This, the first trench, hopes to discover more about the entrance to the hillfort. Today we took off the turf and began carefully clearing the topsoil. It will be interesting to see what we have underneath. The land has been pasture for many years but would hav been ploughed from at least mediaeval times, the furrows would not have been deep but will have disturbed the surface layers.
